Braiding Your Own Bracelet

1. Cutting the Cord

Let’s make a cool pony bracelet! First, grab these items:

  • Colorful cotton or hemp cord

  • Kid-safe safety scissors

  • A handy clip to hold your work

Now, cut the strings for your bracelet:

  • Pick your main color and cut two long pieces (125 cm each).

  • Pick your second color and cut two short pieces (50 cm each).

2. Knotting Process

Step-by-step instructions:

  • Secure the strands: Tie the shorter strands together at one end to form a base.

  • Use a clip or clamp to hold the strands in place.

  • Make square knots:

    • Take one of the long strands and place it over the core strands.

    • Bring the other long strand under the core strands and through the loop created by the first strand.

    • Pull tight to form the first half of the square knot.

    • Repeat the process in reverse to complete the square knot.

  • Continue tying square knots until the bracelet reaches your desired length.

3. Finishing the Bracelet
  • Once you reach the desired length, tie a final knot to secure the end. Trim any excess cord, leaving about an inch or two.

  • Tips for success:

    • Practice knots: If you're new to macrame, practice tying square knots before starting your bracelet.

    • Experiment with materials: You can use different types of cord or add beads for a unique look.

Make Your Tie Dye T-Shirt

1. Gather Materials
  • Pre-washed white cotton t-shirt

  • Rit Dye or fabric dye in squeeze bottle (1 color/bottle)

  • Rubber bands, plastic bag and rubber gloves

  • Protect your work surface with plastic tarp.

2. Twist or Fold the Shirt
  • Lightly dampen the shirt so it's wet but not dripping wet.

  • Pinch the middle of the shirt and twist it into a spiral, or fold like an accordion.

  • Wrap rubber bands around the shirt to hold it in place and make sections for the dye.

3. Apply Dye and Let It Set
  • Use squeeze bottles to add dye to each section. Make sure the fabric is soaked with color.

  • Put the shirt in a plastic bag and let sit for several hours (overnight is best).

  • Rinse the shirt until the water runs clear, then wash it by itself in cold water.

  • Make sure to not wash with other items as the dye might bleed.
